Meeting Tracks

Preventive Medicine 2009 will be featuring state-of-the-art educational sessions and skill building institutes within three conference tracks:

  • Clinical Preventive Medicine: This track covers a wide range of topics in evidence-based clinical prevention, including health promotion, early clinical detection and case-finding, counseling and risk factor modification, and intervention.

  • Public Health Practice: This track encompasses innovations in population-based approaches to preventing and controlling disease. Sessions on this track aim to emphasize issues of public health significance.

  • Prevention Policy: This track seeks to provide participants with an understanding of important and emerging national policy issues of concern to preventive medicine professionals, and to improve participants’ effectiveness in addressing policy issues of concern in their own communities.

  • Career Development Subtrack: The Career Development Subtrack provides medical students, residents, and recent graduates the opportunity to learn about the breadth of career opportunities offered in preventive medicine, occupational medicine, and public health.  Two conference sessions focus on gathering panelists from both the public and private sectors into an open discussion with those looking to understand the variety of career possibilities preventive medicine provides.  In addition, this track will facilitate an informal evening social networking event allowing potential employers and recruiters to meet those looking for job opportunities.

Additional sessions in quality improvement and teaching prevention will be available to attendees of Preventive Medicine 2009 as part of an integrated conference schedule organized in conjunction with Medical Quality 2009, the annual meeting of the American College of Medical Quality, and Teaching Prevention 2009, the annual meeting of the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research.  The conference also features several career development sessions for the young physicians, residents, and medical students, as well as the mid-career physician looking to refocus his/her practice toward prevention.
